Professional Bio

I work for a serious games design and development group, Information in Place, Inc./WisdomTools LLC. As part of our team, I lead the design of specific learning approaches (e.g., problem based learning) as well as specific elements within games (e.g., embedded scaffolds). I also conduct evaluation and research on learning and efficacy in serious games.

With support from NSF, my main focus is on design and development of various aspects of the Virtual Astronaut Learning Platform , which is designed to teach STEM to middle school students. I also conduct internal and external research and evaluations on motivation and learning within serious games, development of self efficacy, as well as near and far transfer.

My skills also include conducting cognitive task analyses and using the outcomes to design serious games as well as training scenarios.

I also write teacher and student guides for using games and develop strategic funding paths and write proposals to support serious game development.
